Beneath the Surface: How Sakamoto Days Is Set to Dive Into a More Intense Atmosphere

The long wait is over; Sakamoto Days just debuted in the Western Hemisphere, specifically on Netflix, and it started tremendously well. The fans, at least on Reddit, liked the first episode and praised the introduction of the storyline and main characters of the show. Although this series is extremely entertaining and hilarious, it gets serious pretty fast.

Entertaining Characters with Funny Dynamics

With the arrival of the Sakamoto Days anime on Netflix, fans decided to give their judgment of the product, and it was mostly positive feedback. The first episodes of any show set up the foundations of the story and lead characters that will be a driving force behind the pace of the plot. This anime immediately showed us the funny and lighthearted parts but also the famous action aspect that we witness within the manga pages all the time. The dynamic between Sakamoto and Shin is quite endearing, with the older man not keen on speaking out loud and the younger one being a psychic who reads his mind. The communication doesn't lack between the two main protagonists, but action doesn't dwindle at all. The action is far from innocent; it's bloody, even grimy at times, making it seem like a true action movie.

However, it still felt that, despite showing quite a few soft aspects of the show, Sakamoto Days is actually quite far from that, meaning that sooner rather than later we will see the serious parts of the story that will include many bloody battles.

Abrupt Change from Fun to Serious

Now, there is a reason why shōnen is so popular among young (mostly) male audiences; it's mostly bloody and action-packed to the point of being sometimes ridiculous. Sakamoto Days definitely fills that role well, with its balance between silliness and seriousness. In manga series, the light calm of the first chapter is soon followed by brutal sequences where Sakamoto and Shin showcase their powers on the men that start to target them.

Yuuto Suzuki definitely didn't hesitate in delivering action and goriness in his manga series, and it seems that anime will follow the same route. The first episode was far from calm, but it's fully expected that the story of the hit shōnen series will hit a higher point even as soon as the second episode. Moreover, other serious themes like the importance of family, past regrets, and the consequences of doing unethical work are a few of many that the manga series documents quite well. Nevertheless, there is balance, and Sakamoto Days does it really well for the most part.

One of the Bloodiest Shōnen Series Out There

If we look at the current most popular anime and manga series, most of them are incredibly bloody and even gory. The likes of Kagurabachi, Chainsaw Man, and even One Piece take the word 'bloody' to the next level, and Sakamoto Days does it as well. The main protagonist is a powerful ex-hitman who uses means to an end to keep himself from killing due to a promise to his wife—if he starts killing, she'll divorce Sakamoto in an instant. Despite the law of not killing and absolutely amazing action choreography, Sakatomo Days does get bloody quite often, mostly because of Shin, who doesn't have to hold himself back for the sake of other people.

Although he vowed not to kill anyone anymore, Sakamoto still brutally harms his opponents with unconventional feats that only he can achieve.

Conclusion: Good Balance Between Fun and Serious Themes

Overall, it feels like the debut episode of Sakamoto Days went pretty well among the fans. Despite having some doubts about the quality of animation and other aspects, the series provided us with a strong enough 'springboard' to look forward to more upcoming episodes of this hit manga series. If we know anything about Sakamoto Days, it is its strong balance between fun and serious themes, the latter being expected quite soon, since this series always thrived on mess and chaos. Nevertheless, there is a lot to look forward to as we eagerly wait for the 18th of January and the second episode that will be released on Netflix.
