Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 19: Love Is a Powerful Emotion

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 19: Love Is a Powerful Emotion

Dora Naletilić

Another monthly update of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex dropped, and it is quite action-packed. In chapter 19, titled 'Konohamaru-chan,' we see Team 7 fighting against the shinju Ryū with the help of Suna shinobi Araya and Yodo, while Konohamaru tries to deal with Matsuri, a shinju who is draining chakra from his childhood friend Moegi. Let's just say that whole chapter doesn't necessarily further the whole plot.

The Fight Continues and Mitsuki and Sarada Finally Shine in a Fight

In the previous chapter, we learned that shinjus are quite bright when it comes to understanding humans. They learn a lot, although they are confused with the strange feelings they are experiencing. Matsuri, who is a direct consequence of Moegi's chakra, is mad at Konohamaru, who for some reason doesn't like being called Konohamaru-chan. On the other side of the battlefield, Team 7 fights against Ryū, who is a direct consequence of Shinki's chakra. Now we learn that the reason why Araya can counter 's iron sand is because Shinki infused his chakra with the shinobi's blade to protect his adopted father Gaara if in danger. Araya helps Mitsuki and Sarada, who manage to hurt Ryū with their signature abilities. Sarada has a 'badass' moment with her Chidori, with which she strikes Ryū.

This is the moment where we finally see Mitsuki and Sarada shine in the battle, which we haven't seen in a really long time. Mitsuki uses his powers that he inherited from his 'father' Orochimaru, while Sarada uses signature Uchiha jutsus that became iconic so many years ago in the Naruto series. After Sarada strikes Ryū, the shinju disappears, which points to the fact that the fight is far from over.

Konohamaru Blows His Own Cover and Learns How Humans 'Work

On the other side of the battlefield, Konohamaru is not in a good position. In the last chapter, he managed to blow his cover because he didn't want to be called 'Konohamaru-chan.'. Matsuri immediately gets mad and calls him a hypocrite and proceeds to attack him. Eida surveys the whole situation and reports to Koji what is going on on the battlefield. When Boruto finds out the situation, he's eager to help his sensei, but Koji tells him to be patient—they will enter the fight when it's suitable.

On the other hand, Jura, the original shinju, starts explaining to Hidari (Sasuke's Human God Tree) how humans 'work'. How their feelings affect their decisions and even impact Shinjus themselves, even Matsuri, who is experiencing them in a very angry way. The female shinju cannot pinpoint why—of course, it's due to Moegi having feelings for Konohamaru. On the other side of the battlefield, Ryū attacks Team 7 and Suna shinobi with summoned Claw Grimes, who immediately attach to Yoro. Araya immediately goes to protect Yoro, but it results in Claw Grimes taking away his sword imbued with Shinki's chakra.

Ryū now has an upper hand over the shinobi; now that they don't have a countermeasure, he has become infinitely more dangerous. Team 7 is in danger, and Konohomaru is on the verge of being devoured by Matsuri. Is this the moment Boruto enters the battlefield?

Conclusion: The Fight Just Got More Harder

This chapter was… okay. We saw a cool fight against the shinjus; Team 7 finally shined in a fight. Sarada showcased her abilities, which is only a drop in the ocean of her potential, and Mitsuki showed his roots—Orochimaru genes. On the other hand, this chapter presented us with another attempt at character assassination of Konohamaru Sarutobi. A jonin shinobi, a close member of the Hokage staff, constantly being part of the S-class missions, cannot suppress his feelings due to a shinju calling him by a nickname. This only shows that Kishimoto doesn't care about Konohamaru's character and hasn't been caring for it for years.

Maybe something changes in the next chapter where Konohamaru will turn around the situation, but still, it's sad that the potential of the character is being 'crushed' because of 'love or feelings'. This particular trope is getting boring at this point in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex series. It doesn't help that the monthly manga has such a slow story progression. It only deflects fans to actually care for the story, which could be good, but these writing decisions don't really help the cause. All in all, we're going to wait for another chapter to drop next month, and until then, we have to analyze these decisions by creators of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
