Chihiro Gets Another Chance for Revenge in Kagurabachi Chapter 60
Share
Takeru Hokazono's Kagurabachi graced us with another chapter of his hit manga, and it is as marvelous as ever. In chapter 60, titled 'Resurrection,' we see Chihiro alive in the aftermath of the battle against his former idol, now foe, Samura. This part serves as a preview for another epic, bloody battle, and it includes great artwork, dialogue, and emotional moments.
Samura's Actions Majorly Affected Everyone
In the previous chapter 59, we learned that Samura betrayed Chihiro and his group, which led to the bloody battle and Uruha's death. Samura made an 'ill-advised' deal with Hishaku to desperately finish his mission—destroy the enchanted swords and sword wielders to prevent violence but also to destroy the 'hero' image of his former comrades.
We see members of Kamunabe discussing the situation around Samura, but also confirming Hakuri's critical condition in the aftermath of the battle. The sorcerer barely stayed alive and currently cannot help Kumonabe to transfer enchanted swords to the seal, so they can later use the weapons to maintain peace in Japan. After confirming that the two other sword wielders are safe from the Hishaku and Samura threat, one of the Kamunabi leaders assures everyone that now they need to wait for 'a ball to drop' and react when it is necessary. The tension is palpable in the Kamunabe HQ, who are eagerly waiting for the next move.

Chihiro Died But Only Temporarily
In the meantime, Chihiro is recovering after the brutal beating he received from Samura, but not before grieving Uruha. Shiba makes an appearance and confirms the sword-wielder is dead, shocking Chihiro, saying the boy was dead as well. Samura stabbed Chihiro and killed him at the temple but then used his powers to heal the boy, essentially saving his life. We learn from Shiba that Samura intentionally killed and resurrected Chihiro to make sure of his Eternal Bond with Enten; his enchanted sword is severed to stop Chihiro's hunt for vengeance.
However, if he didn't want to kill Chihiro, why did Samura kill Uruha? Chihiro demands answers, but Shiba is reluctant until their conversation is interrupted by a strange young man.
The Introduction of New 'Players' in the Game
The conversation between Chihiro and Shiba is interrupted by a strange boy, who introduces himself as the Head of the Masumi Ninja Clan and reveals that they were working with Samura for three years. Moreover, the boy also relays information about Hakuri, who's not doing very well, both physically and mentally, blaming himself for the death of Uruha. Hakuri's role in the battle at the temple was incredibly important, as he helped Chihiru, but as the boy himself confirms, Hakuri saved the Masumi Ninja Clan from imminent death.
To thank Hakuri and return their debt to him, the head of the Masumi clan vows to help Chihiro to resolve the conflict with Samura.
The Want for Revenge Leads to Incredible Guilt
On the other hand, Chihiro still questions Uruha's death and desperately tells Shiba he needs to continue what he started because he left so much blood and death in his wake. He needs to follow what his father told him: 'That bit by bit you have to learn by seeing things with your own eyes,' prompting and asking Shiba to tell him the truth about what happened during the Seitei War. Chihiro finishes his powerful speech by saying he knows he will go to hell, but he needs to make sure Samura understands.
After following the conversation between Shiba and Chihiro from the side, the head of the Masumi Ninja Clan agrees with Chihiro's wishes and tells him to take time to heal because they have a special assignment for him. Shiba then tells Chihiro that the next time Samura kills him, Enten will have a new owner, after which Chihiro vows to never die again.
The panel pans back to Kamunabe HQ, where the leaders of the group confirm Samura's imminent threat but that they have a secret weapon, a boy that came back to life, and the only group who could handle Samura—the Masumi Ninja Clan.
Conclusion: Chihiro's Vulnerability at the Center of the Chapter
The vulnerability of shōnen protagonists is sometimes overlooked, but it seems that Hokazono made sure to showcase that despite being quite powerful, Chihiro is far from immortal. After all his training and preparation for his revenge path, Chihiro still cannot beat the best sword wielders in the world. Through Samura, as the audience, we can finally see that vulnerable side of Chihiro, who also showcases his struggle with guilt and love for his late father. With the new group helping him, Chihiro has a new chance to fight Samura, this time with newfound motivation and willingness to finally know the truth about his father and his sword-wielding comrades.
