Okarun and Kinta Battle Powerful Foes in Dandadan Chapter 189
Dora NaletilićShare
New week means new Dandadan chapter, this time titled 'Jumping Granny and Kung Fu Alien.' After teasing us with the backstory of a very hostile alien girl, Tatsu decided to focus solely on a battle that's already proving to be very hard for Kinta and especially Okarun, who is still trying to find his footing after losing Turbo Granny powers.
A Painful Memory and a Fierce Attack
In the previous chapter of Dandadan, we saw the introduction of a new character, more specifically, a foe that is trying to destroy Okarun for good. Apparently, Okarun 'stole' everything from the alien, who lost her lover during the Space Globalist arc, when the family interrupted her epic plan of revenge—which ultimately failed. Okarun doesn't care, and this really angers the alien, who wants Okarun's blood. On the other side, there is Hase, Okarun's bully who's been possessed by Jumping Granny, a yokai that really wants Turbo Granny powers—Hase just wants to make Okarun miserable. In this chapter, Okarun is suddenly attacked by the alien — a powerful fighter who’s not just in it for battle. As they fight, she flashes back to a painful memory: the Kur invasion that took her lover from her. It’s clear this fight is personal for her, not just another mission.
Okarun does his best to defend himself, but things go south when he accidentally touches the nanoskin suit Kinta made for him. His touch causes the suit to lose its shape and fall apart — a side effect of how the nanoskin works. The alien lands a solid hit, and Okarun takes some damage, though luckily it’s not too serious.

Hase Enters the Fight
Just when it looks bad for Okarun, a surprise interruption changes everything. Hase — Okarun’s old bully, now powered up with Yokai energy — jumps into the fight. He kicks the alien hard, clearly annoyed that she interrupted what he considers his showdown with Okarun. While Hase and the alien clash, Kinta isn’t happy. He’s furious that Okarun ruined the nanoskin suit and throws out a wild idea: the two of them should combine using the little nanoskin they’ve got left. Not like fusion-dance style — more like mech-mode.
Kinta builds a giant makeshift robot suit using nanoskin. He sits at the top, controlling the upper half, while Okarun is the legs. Okarun instantly questions the setup, accusing Kinta of just wanting him to do the heavy lifting. But Kinta argues it makes sense — he’ll handle the tech stuff, and Okarun’s reflexes from fighting experience will help them survive.
Conclusion: Okarun Needs To Have His Powers Back
This chapter of Dandadan was a solid action-packed continuation of the previous chapter. The alien girl's backstory will probably be covered in the next chapter, and without a doubt, it will most certainly be an emotional masterclass for Tatsu, who will once again make us feel sorry for the character. Another point of the chapter is Kinta and Okarun's humor and chemistry but also the latter's lack of powers. There are speculations that Turbo Granny might be back sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, Okarun needs his powers back, which could be a pivotal point of this massive battle.
If this chapter is any indication, the madness is only just getting started—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
