CD PROJEKT RED surprised their fans with the release of a prequel chapter of their critically acclaimed anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The popular anime series got a prequel in the form of manga, which released its first chapter available for reading on the Comic Alive+ platform on December 13th. Fans of the original series were pleasantly surprised by this move of the notable gaming studio, and it has a chance to offer us a new perspective of the story through the eyes of side characters.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners Story Through the Eyes of Rebecca and Pilar

According to the press release, the manga prequel will be titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, and it will serve as the prequel to both Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the Netflix series, and the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Interestingly enough, MADNESS will follow the story of two very well-known characters within the show, Rebecca and Pilar, siblings who are trying to survive in a very chaotic, futuristic world they're living in. This means that the story will follow the siblings before they joined David's crew, with the introduction of some new characters within the universe.

The prequel will be released in paperback in multiple languages, that include Japanese, Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Traditional Chinese. Of course, there will be a manga in English that will be released by Dark Horse in the form of a paperback as well.

The Expansion of Cyberpunk Universe Will Excite Fans of the Series

This news positively shocked the fans who loved the Cyberpunk series and wanted more content within that world. However, the pick of Rebecca and Pilar as the main characters in the prequel was very surprising, especially since the same fans speculated about David's own backstory before the main series. Despite all of the possibilities, the pick of these two characters as the center point of the prequel makes sense, since we barely saw their backstory in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series. This news comes after the fact that Studio Trigger has previously stated they don't plan on a sequel to the series, since the end of David's story marked the end of the franchise.

The Original Series is Getting Its Blu-ray Release

Besides the announcement of the manga prequel, Cyberpunk fans have more to look forward to in 2025, since CD PROJEKT RED confirmed the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Blu-ray in Japan, the USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand. For everyone that likes to have physical copies of their favorite series, 2025 is a great year to get your own version of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which touched the hearts of audiences across the world.
