Ranking Best Valentine's Day Anime That Will Make Your Heart Jump

Dora Naletilić

Not everyone loves Valentine's Day, but no one can deny that it is a true romantic holiday, especially for couples. We are always 'bombarded' by romantic movies, TV shows, and even music, but anime also has iconic series' that will either make you cry out of sadness or simply out of silliness. These are our picks for the best romantic Valentine's Day anime!

Kaguya-sama: Love is War

One of the more endearing and entertaining anime on the list, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, is your typical romantic comedy. It follows Kaguya and Miyuki, two members of the student council and prodigies that are excelling in their studies. Both of them are nursing crushes for each other but don't want to admit it due to their competitive nature and stubbornness. The series is adorable and hilarious and one of the better ones out there, so definitely check it out!

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

Monthly Girls! Nozaki-kun is your typical rom-com that will make you smile. It follows the story of Chiyo, who wants to confess her love for Nozaki, who is absolutely clueless about her feelings. When she finally confesses her love, Nozaki misunderstands Chiyo, thinking he is admiring his work on his shojo manga. He eventually hires Chiyo as his assistant, who, through her work, starts to showcase her signs of love. This anime is an absolute joy and very fitting for Valentine's Day.

Yuri!!! on Ice

Love through sport is one of the best romantic tropes in fictional media, and Yuri!!! on Ice definitely fits that mold. It follows the story of professional ice skaters Yuri, who is going through tough times in his life, and Victor, who offers the man his coaching skills. This dynamic leads to them falling in love with each other, making it one of the best love stories in the last few years. Of course, this is about love between two men, one of the few that doesn't fetishize gay relationships.

Toradora!

Toradora! is definitely a journey, but a fulfilling one that will move you to tears. It follows Ryuuji and Taiga, who have crushes on their respective friends. They make a deal to attract their crushes to each other, unconsciously leading to them actually falling for each other. Toradora! is surprisingly moving in the way it depicts its characters, and it is one of the best romantic anime dramas out there.

Sailor Moon

Who doesn't love cool girls fighting evil forces? Sailor Moon is an iconic shōjo anime that inspired millions of people across the globe, but besides depicting cool characters, it also explores romantic elements. Main character Usagi falls in love with Mamoru, who later finds out their love actually transcends multiple timelines and universes. Other girls don't get that much romantic coverage except the iconic lesbian couple in Haruka and Michiru, who are Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, but still, it's worth the watch.

Bloom Into You

Bloom Into You is another queer love story on this list, this time involving two girls, Yuu and Nanami. At first, Yuu thinks she and Nanami are platonic soulmates until she realizes she has actual feelings for her friend. Now, she needs to juggle between her feelings and friendship, making sure she doesn't scare Nanami away. Like Yuri!!! On Ice, this anime doesn't fetishize queer relationships, which definitely helps the appeal for this genre. Definitely check it out.

Your Name

One of the rare picks that is actually an anime movie is Your Name. This now-iconic film follows the story of Mitsuha and Taki, who've never met but one day find each other swapping bodies. They live through this period getting to know each other, which leads them to fall in love. Complications occur that include a possible natural disaster and never seeing each other, but still they will fight for each others love and make sure they meet again - properly this time. One of the best romantic anime films for sure.

Your Lie In April

Do you want to cry on Valentine's Day? Your Lie in April is a perfect anime for that, and it will make sure you never let go of your loved one. It follows a story of Kousei, a piano prodigy whose life falls apart after his biggest inspiration and support, his mother, dies. However, he eventually meets Kaori, a violinist who helps him rediscover his love for music and how life is too short to regret or not do the things you love. It's absolutely heartbreaking but still one of the best romantic anime.
