Sakamoto Days: An Exciting Journey of Action and Humor
Share
Another hit shōnen series will grace our small screens, this time on Netflix, a manga created by Yuuto Suzuki, titled Sakamoto Days. This still ongoing manga series 'won' the hearts of the fans across the world with its cool story concept and incredible characters that carry the series' to its heights. In honor of Sakamoto Days getting its anime on Netflix, let's discuss this hit series in more detail.
Solid Foundations of the Main Story
Over the years, we were witnesses to incredible shōnen series, like Dandadan and Kagurabachi, and Sakamoto Days 'sneakily' became part of this elite group. The series is written and illustrated by Yuuto Suzuki, whose hit manga first got published in 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, and since then, he has produced 20 volumes, all of them contributing to the enormous popularity. The story goes something like this: a former assassin, Taro Sakamoto, decided to retire from his duties to live a peaceful life with his loving family. After many years, Sakamoto's peaceful life is disrupted when old enemies come to hunt for his life. While all of that is happening, now a convenience store owner, Sakamoto meets another former assassin, this time a much younger man named Shin, who decides to work for the older man and help him against dangers that await him.
The core foundation of the story is solid enough for new fans to start and stick with the series because it portends an action-packed and entertaining story. The artwork of the manga also adds to the coolness of Sakamoto Days, which only makes the anime adaptation even more hype and interesting for the new fans.
Incredibly Interesting Characters
As previously mentioned, Taro Sakamoto is the main protagonist of the story, a former assassin leaving everything for his loving wife and eventually his daughter. After many years of being a hitman, Sakamoto decides to open up a convenience store, which he runs with his family. In the manga series, Taro is established as mostly an aloof man who loves his wife and only shows his emotions when she bestows her wrath upon him, but that changes over the course of the series as he opens up more to his allies, mostly to Shin, his younger colleague.
Shin is another protagonist of the story, a former young assassin who was once Sakamoto's student. They reunited when he failed to kill his former mentor and eventually joined him and his family against the enemies of Sakamoto's past. Shin simply idolizes Sakamoto and is both the opposite and similar to his mentor: he's straightforward, calm, and collected in tense situations, and finally, he cares a lot for his friends. Combining two protagonists with the rest of the cast, which includes a few more allies of the former assassins and Sakamoto's family, the whole cast feels cohesive and incredibly well written. Perfect setup for the anime adaptation that fans will absolutely adore.

Amazing Blend of Humor and Action
The core story is amazing and solid enough to hold up the series, but what really makes the plot shine are the dynamics between the characters. Maybe besides Sakamoto, every character feels lively, colorful, and provides another dimension to the Sakamoto Days. On the other hand, the plot of the series becomes really serious fast; at the end of the day, it is a series revolving around assassins and murder. With covering some serious and sensitive topics, Sakamoto Days also triumphs with its amazing action and choreography of the battles, which are elevated with amazing artwork by Suzuki.
Overall, the series seems very good in blending multiple different aspects and layers of the genres and storylines, making it seem that we're watching a movie when reading a manga chapter. Thankfully, the anime adaptation will open up the series even more with its (presumably) incredible animation and visual quality of the end product.
Conclusion: A Definite Netflix Hit Anime
Overall, Sakamoto Days is a true and ultimate member of the shōnen elite. Among so many projects, this one truly shone through with its cool storyline concept, amazing artwork, composition, and finally, incredible characters that truly carry the plot of the series. Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura are good enough protagonists to carry the story, but when we include the side characters as well, Sakamoto Days feels incredibly cohesive in its approach and interesting enough to keep going strong with every new content. If we learned anything from the success of the Dandadan anime, we can confidently say that Sakamoto Days will be another hit anime series, this time in the year of 2025.
