Speculating the Future of Dandadan: Twists on the Horizon
Dora NaletilićShare
With the newest chapter of Dandadan, readers learned so much about the potential peak of the whole 'Pygmies' story arc. It's amazing how Tatsu knowingly twists and intertwines plot points and motivations of his characters. Momo is closer to the cure, but other dangers loom in the shadows, waiting to strike the Family that we love so much.
Potential Resolution of Momo's Situation
As we saw in the previous chapter, Yukinobu Tatsu is getting us closer to the resolution of Momo's situation. Since 'Danmanra Arc,' Momo's been having massive problems with her physique—she's as small as a fairy. After being trapped in Danmanra's Cursed Trunk, Momo has been slightly sidelined from the position of the main character, and frankly, we as fans kind of missed her. Yes, she is still there, but for the story to work, writers need to explain one's condition. That's what Tatsu's been doing for more than ten chapters—he's been setting up the whole conspiracy surrounding Momo's condition and the mysterious attacks that have been happening recently.
It seems that Seiko's meeting a few chapters ago, with 'cursed buddies,' Payase and Kashimoto, is potentially paying off, since they were the ones who told her about the special ancient artifact, The Uchide-no-Kozuchi Magic Hammer, which will help Momo come back to normal. Seiko is certainly having something in mind since she seems in a hurry, wanting to help her granddaughter, showcasing her irrevocable love for her.

Reveal of the Mysterious Figure Behind the Conspiracy
Remember when we were so certain Count Saint-Germain was the one behind the attacks? Well, this chapter proves that nothing is always as it seems—it most certainly threw a wrench in fans' theories. In the most recent chapter, we see Count Saint-Germain seeking help from a mysterious being, possibly a Kur, which we saw in the 'Space Globalist' story arc. The reason behind his 'recruitment' is to help him with something. What that is, we still don't know, but looking back at the attacks on Seiko, Momo, and the group, that doesn't feel like something Count would do, especially considering his previous actions.
Why would he 'hire' defenseless people like that middle-aged man who attacked Seiko in the restaurant? Why would he hire teachers and insecure students to do his job? There has to be a bigger figure behind everything, at least someone who is helping Count or simply his 'boss.' Tatsu really threw a wrench in almost certain fan theory, and honestly, we cannot wait to see what will happen in the aftermath.
Potential Shake-Ups in the Group
As we know, in fictional media, whenever the tightly knit group splits, that spells trouble, and that might be what is waiting for the Family in Dandadan. Since Momo got 'small,' there is palpable tension in the group, mostly regarding Jiji's feelings for his childhood friend—unconsciously, he feels responsible for Momo's situation and is too overprotective. A few times in the last few chapters, there were instances where Jiji would act very abruptly and be too emotional, making things awkward for the group.
On the other side, we have Aira, who has been more subtle in her feelings for Okarun (more than usual), but her happiness of working together with her crush will not last long. This is where we can expect a double heartbreak in the Family: Momo and Okarun will confirm their love and softly reject Jiji and Aira respectively. More on that in another article.
Conclusion: Everything Leads to the 'Final Boss' of the Story Arc
Tatsu taught us many things since the start of Dandadan, and that is to never expect the obvious. Count Saint-Germain as a certain villain is more unlikely after the last chapter. There is a huge possibility of something much bigger and sinister being involved, and that makes this story arc potentially the biggest that we have had yet. More mystery, higher stakes, and it's so exciting. Momo will finally be back to normal; we will probably see Momo and Okarun officially together and Jiji and Aira picking up shards of their broken hearts.
There is a month break before the next chapter, and until then we will continue to speculate on what will happen in potentially the coolest story arc that we've witnessed from Dandadan.
