Thrills and Chills: Kagurabachi Chapter 63’s Epic Action Unfolds

Dora Naletilić

In the newest Kagurabachi chapter 63, we were blessed with amazing action scenery and cool moments for our hero Chihiro but his supporting characters as well. The chapter titled simply 'Car Chase' sees the aftermath of Kishaku attacking the high school Samura's daughter is in, Chihiro confronting his sworn enemies, and the Masumi Clan finally showcasing why they are there for Chihiro.

Masumi Clan Plans for Samura's Daughter Escape

In the previous chapter, we saw Hishaku entering a high school in Kyoto, where Iori, Samura's daughter, attends as a student. Hishaku attacks the school looking for a young girl; however, in the last moment, Chihiro and the Masumi Clan members intervene. In the newest chapter, the leader of the Masumi Clan talks with shocked Iori and tells her that she needs to be taken somewhere safe and that she's in danger. Iori is confused by her so-called protectors and demands to return to her classmates to save them, but she doesn't know they got it covered. Sumi, who is a member of the Masumi Clan, summons a motorcycle and demands Iori hop on to escape the Hishaku members. In the meantime, Chihiro is busy with Hishaku swordsman, who disengages from Chihiro and starts following Iori and her protector, Sumi.

Chihiro doesn't want to give up on killing the Hishaku member despite the initial mission that includes only extracting Iori from the school, but the members of Masumi don't waver in Chihiro's demands—the leader and another member named Moku will go after Hishaku, and Chihiro will continue to seek Iori.

Hishaku Doesn't Want to Give Up Their Target

While Sumi tries to secure Iori and bring her to the safe spot, the Hishaku members do not give up at all. Two members of the group follow two women and discuss the details about the Masumi Clan and their strange plan to 'out' Iori as Samura's daughter, just to save the high school students. Suddenly, the driver of their car is dead, and it's revealed that the leader of the Masumi Clan is on Hishaku's tail. The car crashes, and despite his Hishaku teammate being dead and his driver, the man, now named Kuguri, continues to follow Sumi and Iori.

Kuguri seems to like slicing things with his katana and literally slices through everything to stop Sumi and gets to the point where he can reach the girls.

Chihiro Finally Accepts His New Allies

Just as Sumi was going to get sliced by Kuguri, the leader of the Masumi Clan talks with Chihiro back at the high school. The leader acknowledges Chihiro's many scars, which he earned during fights but also when he wanted to protect his close friends. He continues his musings with reminding us what Chihiro went through in a very short period of time and finally concedes that the boy will put himself in the early grave.

However, he also acknowledges that the people Chihiro could leave behind would be incredibly sad to see him die. The leader of the Masumi Clan ends his speech, saying that he knows that Chihiro's anxious and stressed with everything that's been happening and finally tells the teenager that they're a team—that Chihiro should share his burden with them. Finally, Chihiro accepts Masumi Clan's help, and we go back to the present where Sumi and Iori are just about to get sliced by Kuguri. Chihiro appears in the last second and saves the girls. Kuguri tells Chihiro that he's moving really well, with Chihiro ending the chapter with the words we waited for so long—the load just got a bit lighter.

Conclusion: Chihiro Burden and Inevitable Relief

Chapter 63 was a true ode to action. From the first panel to the last, Takezono bestowed us with incredible scenes that can only be characterized as cinematic and so unapologetically cool. However, this chapter didn't lack emotion and serious scenes where we finally see Chihiro acknowledging his allies' help that will at least partially relieve him of the burden that he carries from the first chapter of Kagurabachi. Chihiro is 'lighter,' and this moment will resonate with us for a very long time and will prove important in the future battles of this incredible character. The manga series will be on a short two-week break, but don't worry; there is a lot to talk about with Kagurabachi, the future face of the Shonen Jump.
