What’s Next? Action Kicks off in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 18

Dora Naletilić

The monthly upgrade of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is here with chapter 18 of the series. The chapter titled 'Only Babble in Your Sleep' sees Kawaki finally moving his story forward, Team 7 finding themselves in a very dangerous situation, and the Human God Trees showcasing they are more aware than we thought.

Kawaki Finally Wakes Up From Plot Slumber

In the previous chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, we see a brilliant plan conducted by Shikamaru, who wants to use Shinjus's naivety and defeat them without risking the life of his shinobi. On the other side of the Konohagakure, we see Kawaki finally confronting Amado about his limited power. The newest chapter sees the continuation of the events of the previous chapter, with Kawaki threatening Amado. Sumire encounters a very tense scene and witnesses how Amado uses a special saying to 'shut off' Kawaki, making him fall unconscious.

Meanwhile, in the desert, Konohamaru tries to talk with Matsuri, while Sarada and Mitsuki try to distract Ryū, who seems unbothered by the whole situation—he just wants to find Boruto. The trio encounters Suna shinobi, Yodo and Araya, members of Shinki's team, the former not trying to hide her distaste for the shinju. Just as Sarada makes Ryū expose his Thorn Bulb, Yodo fails for the bait and exposes Shikamaru's plan. Ryū doesn't like that one bit.

Amado's Ultimate Plan Gets Stalled by Kawaki and Shikamaru's Plan Fails

Meanwhile in Konohagakure, Kawaki wakes up with Amado and Sumire hovering over him. Amado reveals he wants to talk and explains to Kawaki he can modify his ability settings to full offensive power, which will prove enough against the mighty shinjus. However, with only one condition: Kawaki needs to implement his Karma into a clone of his daughter, Akebi, to finally resurrect her. Amado reveals that Kawaki has Akebi's data in his Karma and that he will 'awaken' his daughter just as she was before—it's his life's purpose. Kawaki refuses since Akebi will ultimately be an Ōtsutsuki, and he will kill her on the spot. Amado begs Kawaki, but the younger man tells him he'll do it after he kills every Ōtsutsuki on the planet, eventually his daughter as well.

In the desert, Konohamaru 'fumbles' with Matsuri by asking her not to call him Konohamaru-chan, which he is exclusively called by Moegi. Matsuri immediately gets hostile and Konohamaru now needs to realize how to get out of this dangerous situation.

Sunagakure Shinobi's Role Increases

The Thorn Bulb from Ryū is only a bait that Yodo 'bites' immediately. A powerful shinju uses his metal sand to control Team 7, making Sarada attack Mitsuki. Ryū proves to be more smart and less naive than he presented himself, catching all shinobi off guard. Before Sarada strikes Mitsuki, who cannot move, she manages to get herself out of the strong controlling jutsu. However, it's not due to her abilities but due to another shinobi jutsu—Araya momentarily saves the day. He uses a unique jutsu called 'Load Stone Sand-Sealing Blade.'

Conclusion: Kawaki's Mission Just Complicated Things for Everyone

This chapter was quite entertaining in terms of small twists and Kawaki finally being in the center of the plot. Small twists include Shinjus being more smart than we expected and Sumire being present during Amado's efforts of 'shutting' Kawaki down. She'll definitely be an important factor due to her knowing the 'shut down code' of Kawaki. It seems that stakes got much higher in the plot of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, but it still feels like not many things are happening in the manga panels of a monthly updated series. Kishimoto and Ikemoto need to do more in that department since the story sometimes feels too slow and filled with information that doesn't necessarily progress the main storyline. Nevertheless, the whole plot is still solid enough for fans to stay interested, so we'll have to wait and see what will happen in the upcoming chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex that gets released next month on the same date.
