Analyzing Kawaki’s Path Forward in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Share
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, upcoming chapter 18, will have its debut in 2025 on the 21st of January, which will prove to be crucial for the manga series' story. Kishimoto and Ikemoto put their focus on the titular character in Boruto Uzumaki with the time skip and the arrival of Human God Trees, and Kawaki feels slightly sidelined by the creators. What is his path in the future storyline of the ongoing series? Let's find out.
Kawaki as the Side Character in the New Storyline
Kawaki's tragic story has been very well documented in the Boruto Universe, from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations to the current and most recent manga series, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. A poor boy becoming an orphan and later a tool for an alien clan to accomplish their twisted goals. After he was found by Team 7, Kawaki was unofficially adopted by Naruto Uzumaki and Konohagakure village, but that didn't erase the threat of the Ōtsutsuki Clan. Kawaki eventually decides to do everything in his power to protect Naruto and Hinata and changes memories of the whole village—making them think Boruto killed his own parents. This led to Boruto fleeing the village while Kawaki remained with very few people knowing the real truth.
The three-year skip brought many interesting developments, including Boruto being allied with Koji and the whole Ninja World 'mourning' Naruto. However, it also gave time for new enemies to show up, the humanoid creatures directly coming from the Ten-Tails Beast, the Human God Trees. From that moment, and Kishimoto's decision to focus more on Boruto, Kawaki was slightly sidelined from the story.

New Threat Feels Greater Than Ever
The Human God Trees are quite unique creatures. In their essence, the shinjus are a combination of Isshiki's remnants of the Ten-Tails and Code's Claw Grimes. The Claw Grimes capture an individual and slowly but surely feed off their chakra until they die and consequently give 'birth' to powerful humanoids. One of the prominent names captured here is Uchiha Sasuke, Boruto's mentor, whom the boy wants to save. With that, Kawaki decides to temporarily create an alliance with Boruto to defeat the threat that could potentially wipe the whole world.
Besides that plot point, which is incredibly important, Kawaki seems excluded from everything that's been going on, but that's simply not true. Boruto reveals another important fact to his temporary ally Kawaki: the older boy's true powers are being suppressed by Amado.
An Unleashed Power Waiting to be Unlocked
The story of Amado is still quite blurry to the citizens of Konoha, but not to Kawaki, who knows him from before coming to the village. The scientist was the one who created Kawaki that we know of today and a former Inner of the Kara group, responsible for creating the cyborg monsters of the Ōtsutsuki Clan. Of course, Amado's motivations lie within his own personal interests, mostly around his deceased beloved daughter, who tragically died of an unknown disease. This is where the Ōtsutsuki Clan and Kawaki come in, since the scientist was responsible for creating the cyborgs like Isshiki, Eida, and Delta, and in the end, Kawaki, who developed incredible powers.
Amado's influence on Kawaki is very noticeable during the length of the series, especially knowing that the older man knows the true extent of Kawaki's powers. This is where Boruto's statement comes into play; Amado adjusted Kawaki's power enough for his fight against Code, limiting his true power. At the end of the most recent chapter, Kawaki confronts Amado and demands from the scientist to finally 'release his true power.'
Conclusion: Kawaki's Role to Become Important
Fans of Boruto noticed very early in this part of the series that Kawaki has been sidelined for the sake of the focus on the titular character. It felt that Kawaki was just sitting around and doing nothing in the village, while Team 7 and Boruto have been doing the 'heavy lifting' against the Human God Trees. However, it feels that Kawaki will soon be unleashed, more powerful than ever, especially with the happenings in Sunagakure and the leader of the Human God Trees, Jura, freely walking around Konohagure. At the end of the day, Boruto and Kawaki are the main characters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and with Amado's tinkering and Shinjus being a bigger threat with every day, the adopted Uzumaki son will arrive on the battlefield stronger than ever.
