Dandadan Chapter 184: A New Leader Emerges on the Horizon

The newest chapter of Dandadan is an action-packed delight that serves us a cool new yokai threat, Aira and Rin working together and as usual, Yukinobu Tatsu's silliness and seriousness combined into one chapter. Chapter 184, titled 'The Class Reps Head' truly puts one character at the forefront as a true leader of the Family.

Rin Is in Grave Danger

In the previous chapter of Dandadan, we saw Kinta, Okarun, and Aira running to the high school gym to save their friend Rin and new ally Kuoki, who served as bait to the mysterious enemy that's been harassing the Family members. The group eventually separates and Aira realizes that their friend Rin is in deep trouble - her head has been floating around the high school gym with the rest of the strange cursed yokai. In chapter 184, Aira notices Rin's head and finds Mai next to her, trying to figure out what is going on if her friend is even alive. Mai quickly explains that Rin is currently stuck between the 'solid world' and the afterlife and the reason why she is in this state, is due to her being 'dunked' by scary basketball yokai.

Of course, Rin doesn't have enough time due to her life force 'leaking' out of her neck and to prevent that Aira needs to connect her head to her body. Mai also explains the reason why there are many yokai in the school gym and the whole sequence of the manga panels is absolutely hilarious.

New Enemy Cosplays Most Skilled Basketball Players in the World

Mai explains to Aira that whoever sneaks into the gym during the night to play, headless basketball players will appear and try to play the game with any head they encounter. Meanwhile, Rin awakens and quickly explains her state and the whereabouts of Kuoki - the girls are simply in danger and they need to save her. 

Aira is trying to run away from the headless basketball players but eventually puts herself in the way of the projectiles and falls on the gym floor. The headless beings immediately reach Aira and start 'dribbling' with her head, while trying her best to keep Rin's in her possession. Just as Aira is about to get 'dunked', she manages to 'undunk' Rin and connects her head to her body, leading to her ultimate awakening.

Rin Starts To Sing

Rin awakens and starts to sing, saving Aira from being 'dunked' and thrown into the afterlife. The singing stuns creepy creatures which give the duo a moment to breathe and Aira a chance to commentate on her friend's new (very revealing) outfit after her transformation - the whole sequence is once again true Dandadan. We also learn that Rin can control gravity with her singing which is very useful against their enemies and just as Rin is trying to protect Aira, Miss Shiratori showcases her true leadership values that we saw grow during the whole length of Dandadan manga, with her signature confidence: 'I'm the leader here, aren't I?'

Conclusion: Aira Is a True Leader of the Family

Dandadan had many amazing character moments but the 184th chapter truly 'takes the cake', especially for Aira's character development. Initially a hated character, she slowly but surely started showcasing her potential and now is considered one of the coolest characters of the series. This chapter also showcased the incredible mind of Yukinobu Tatsu, who can create the most ridiculous concepts and make them incredibly scary and serious in the context of the series, making him one of the best current Japanese writers and illustrators. Nevertheless, a huge fight awaits us in the next chapter, with the hope of getting a glimpse of Okarun and Kinta and of course, Momo and Seiko.
